Just what is the best smartphone? We believe it is the Samsung Galaxy S6, with the Google Nexus 6P and Apple iPhone 6s following closely behind. Keep reading to find out more about the best smartphone and some of the alternatives.

Because smartphones are such an important piece of technology we review all the best handsets in the UK to allow you to make the smart choice for your smart phone. Here are our rankings for the top five smartphones available right now.

5. iPhone 6S

We’ve been very impressed with the iPhone 6S and what it can do. We really love the 3D Touch technology. Should it become more mainstream, and we really think it will, then this 3D Touch will really change how people use their iPhones. We also really love the way Apple altered the camera functions on the phone, especially as the resolution of the iSight camera has been the same since the iPhone 4S came out in 2011. These new functions work great with Live Photos, the latest camera software that lets you capture a gif-like video that includes audio by taking three photos; one 1.5 seconds before the main photo and one 1.5 seconds after the main photo. The 6S has more going for it than just new features though. The inner workings of the phone have been boosted giving you the fast iPhone ever. Things that might take a few seconds on the iPhone 6 Plus happen almost instantly with the 6S. We’re very excited about the new technology in the iPhone 6S and what it means for the industry as a whole.

4. Samsung Galaxy Note 5

If you’re wondering what we think of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 it’s as simple as we love almost everything about it. We love the sleek and curved design to the bright display and super high-resolution camera. It also has a powerful CPU that can handle anything you want. Throw in 4GB of RAM and you have a phone that never lags and is as powerful as some modern computers. There is just one thing wrong with this phone. Sometimes it believes that the S Pen has been detached when it hasn’t. That this tiny flaw is the only thing wrong says a lot about the Samsung Galaxy Note 5. Unfortunately the phone won’t be available in the UK any time soon, which is a real shame.

3. iPhone 6S Plus

The iPhone 6S Plus is easily the best iPhone ever made by Apple. Just avoid buying the 16GB model which has nowhere near enough storage. The 6S Plus also has one of the smallest screens on the market as it comes in at under five inches. The 3D Touch feature can sound like a bit of gimmick but it absolutely isn’t one. There isn’t even any effort involved in setting it up. You get used to it very quickly and it’s going to be interesting to see how it is integrated and used in the apps and games of the future. If you already own an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus then it will be hard to justify spending so much on an upgrade just for the 3D Touch features and improved camera. But if you have iPhone 5 or earlier model then there’s so much difference it’s easily worth upgrading.

2. Google Nexus 6P

When the Nexus phones first came out they stood out because they were cheap, but not too cheap. They weren’t seen as a real alternative to better selling phones, but they did provide a way to use basic Android operating systems. The Nexus 6P changes this though. It’s one of the best Android phones you can get right now and is far more than an “alternative”. There are some downsides to it, such as not being able to hold more than one SIM and the battery can’t be removed. You also can’t charge it wirelessly. There are positives though. The screen is of fantastic quality thanks to the front-firing speakers. It charges quickly and has an excellent camera too, as well as powerful performance and a wonderful OS in Android Marshmallow. All of this goes together to give you one great phone that’s fun and easy to use. It is also still cheaper than rivals like the iPhone, Note, and Galaxy Edge. If you don’t want to pay more then you want the Nexus 6P.

1. Samsung Galaxy S6

The best Android phone out right now is undoubtedly the Samsung Galaxy S6. Though the latest offerings of the LG G4 and Sony Xperia Z4 may change that soon. The S6 is built well with a fast processor, gorgeous screen, and software that doesn’t get in the way. There is a noticeable improvement with the fingerprint scanner too. The phone can even measure your heartrate, which is going to attract some people. As will speedy wireless charging. There are some downsides of course. The price is a little high, the battery can’t be removed, and waterproofing and MicroSD support are both gone. The positives of the phone more than make up for these negatives though.
