If you’re a tech geek then you own a smartwatch, or have at least heard of them. They’re still relatively new but there’s a whole lot of choice on the market. With that in mind here is a breakdown of five of the best smartwatches around right now.

Pebble may be new but they’ve given us undoubtedly the best smartwatch for the money. It’s just $99 and gives you access to thousands of apps and watch faces in a sleek and waterproof little watch. It comes in a number of colors and sends notifications straight to your wrist. It works great with fitness apps like Runkeeper and comes with an ePaper design that can even be read in the light of the sun. There is a $199 model that’s a little more advanced but overall this is still the best value.

Moto 360

moto 360This is the second generation of Moto 360 smartwatches and it’s definitely an improvement on the first. This one is more customisable for a start. You can design your Moto 360 yourself using the Moto Maker online app. You decide the colors and straps to create the right watch for you. It runs on Android Wear and is also compatible with Android thanks to the iOS Android Wear app. A great (and unique) little feature is the live dials feature. This brings a lot of functionality to your little screen. The Moto Body app monitors your body as your exercise. There are also plans for a Sports model that features GPS. This would be the prefect accessory for my LG G6.

Pebble Time Steel

pebbletimesteelThe Pebble is back, this time with the aptly named Time Steel. This watch is undoubtedly the best in terms of battery life. It gives you everything you would want out of a smartwatch and has a battery that lets you do it all. It can last up to a whopping ten days without a charge. It also has a timeline interface that makes it ideal for people on a schedule. You can just scroll through the calendar and find or create events. It uses an eInk display that is remarkably easy to read in the daylight and it looks and feels professional thanks to the metal design.

Tag Hauer Connected

the-tag-heuer-connected-is-the-first-smartwatch-that-apple-should-be-worried-aboutNow this smartwatch is definitely one of the most expensive Android Wear watches at $1,500 but it also has plenty of tricks to make it worth it. The Connected can connect using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth but, more than that, it can also monitor the wind and the weather and has a whopping 4GB of internal storage. The Connected also features an Intel CPU rather than the usual Qualcomm chip you find in smartwatches. It features special faces and apps for keeping track of golf and recommending restaurants. Though considering the price a metal strap would be better than the rubber one you get. Though one bonus is that, if you aren’t satisfied with your Connected after two years, you can pay another $1,500 to trade it for the more traditional Carrera watch, a watch that will sell for more than the $3,000 you’d have paid by that point.

Huawei Elegant and Jewel

downloadThe new smartwaches by Huawei, the Elegant and Jewel, have microphones and speakers so you can use them to make calls straight from your wrist. You can actually use these watches as phones. The Elegant lives up to its name as it features an elegant design, while the Jewel is adorned with beautiful Swarovski crystals. Both watches are also sport models with simple designs. The watch is compatible with all Android phones including the all new Huawei Mate 9.

A smartwatch is a fantastic little gadget that can do quite a bit. Provided you get a good one. The watches featured in this list are all good choices. Pick the one that’s best suited for your needs and budget.
